Little Indian Sioux to Moose River Route

Overview

The Little Indian Sioux to Moose River Route runs point to point between Entry Point 14 on the Little Indian Sioux River and Entry Point 16 on the Moose River, both in the La Croix District. From the Sioux River landing, a short chain of portages carries the route north through the Pauness Lakes and into Loon Lake before crossing onto Lac La Croix, then the route exits south through Lake Agnes and the Nina Moose River to Entry Point 16.

Lac La Croix anchors the middle of the trip, a large international border lake shared with Ontario, holding lake trout, walleye, and sauger among its open water and many islands. From there the route narrows into Lake Agnes and then the Nina Moose River, a paddling stretch broken by a handful of short portages rather than open water, before reaching Nina Moose Lake and the final carry out to Entry Point 16.

This is a route for groups comfortable planning a shuttle between two different entry points rather than a loop back to the start. Every portage along the way stays moderate or easier except the carry into Entry Point 16 itself, so the trip's demands come from its length and the open-water crossing of Lac La Croix rather than from any one difficult carry.
