About this route
The Kawishiwi Triangle begins and ends at Entry Point 31 on Farm Lake, a large lake in the Kawishiwi District that also serves as one of the BWCA's motor-permitted entry points. From the landing, the route follows a connected chain of river stretches and small ponds linking the North and South Kawishiwi River before reaching Clear Lake, then closes the loop back to Farm Lake by a different stretch of water than it went out on.
Clear Lake sits roughly two-thirds of the way through the loop and holds walleye, northern pike, and smallmouth bass, with several campsites to choose from. Farm Lake carries the same core species plus panfish and cisco, a reflection of its much larger size relative to Clear Lake and the ponds along the way.
This route works well as an introduction to the Kawishiwi River corridor: a loop rather than an out-and-back, with a mix of shorter, easier crossings and a couple of longer carries that stand out from the rest. Camp at Clear Lake for a base to fish and explore from before closing the loop back to the landing.
Route Highlights
- A loop that closes on different water each way, crossing both the North and South Kawishiwi River corridors from a single entry point
- Clear Lake's campsites and mixed walleye, northern pike, and smallmouth bass fishing
- Farm Lake's size and fish variety at the entry point itself, including cisco and panfish alongside its walleye and pike
